Excellence Initiative II, Institutional Strategy – “Mobility in International Research Collaborations"

The discovery of the cosmic acceleration has brought the exploration of dark energy to a central stage in Physics. Many experiments are underway or planned to elucidate its properties and to understand its nature. Perhaps the ultimate dark energy experiment is the Euclid mission, recently selected by the European Space Agency for launch in 2019. Euclid will produce unparalleled maps of the galaxy clustering and of weak lensing across almost the whole sky and down to a redshift of order two or three. The combined constraints from Euclid data will improve by several orders of magnitude the present knowledge of the main cosmological parameters. To be able to extract this wealth of information, it is necessary to ensure that we combine properly all the data sets, that we do not discard information both at small and at large scales and that we perform accurate predictions of the most interesting theoretical models.
