Partner institutions

By means of the ERASMUS-program, the European Union has been promoting inter-european exchange between institutions of higher education for more than 30 years now, enabling advanced mobility for students and lecturers.

You have the opportunity to spend between one and two semesters at one of our foreign partner institutions, where you will be exempt from tuition fees and have access to a small monthly financial grant, as well as access to support by local contact partners. For further information, please consult the general ERASMUS-bureau. 

The ERASMUS-program for History students is managed directly by the Historical Seminar. Therefore, you ought to address your application to Prof. Dr. Thomas Maissen and send it to the following e-mail-address: erasmus.geschichte@zegk.uni-heidelberg.de.

The application window for a stay abroad during the 2025/26 winter semester or the 2026 summer semester opens on December 1st and closes on February 25th. 

For general information about our exchange programs, please consult our moodle course. 

Applications from students of other subjects are possible, if capacity is available.

Belated applications are possible until the 15th of April 2025, except for the universities in Spain, England, Milan and Rome. Please contact erasmus.geschichte@zegk.uni-heidelberg.de timely, if you are interested.

Partner institutions 
 

• Please inform yourself about language skill requirements on the websites of our partner institutions. The required language level has to be on hand when enrolling at the partner institution (usually 3-4 months before the start of your stay).
   
• *4EU+ means that there is no determined amount of places - it is possible for more than 2 students per semester to stay at the respective institution. This, however, cannot be guaranteed and depends upon the number of applicants.  
             
• Further opportunities at further partner institutions are offered by the ELAN-program. We offer stays at the University of Bristol, the Trinity College in Dublin, the University of Turku (Finland), the Universidad de Coimbra (Portugal), the Universität Graz (Austria) and the University College in Utrecht (Netherlands) and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium).
