Mathematicians and computer scientists at Heidelberg University will share quarters for their classes and research: The Mathematikon is the new home for the institutes and facilities of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science as well as the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR). Until now, different parts of the faculty and the centre were distributed among seven buildings. Following a three-year construction period, the new building complex opened with a celebratory event in December 2015. The non-profit Klaus Tschira Stiftung (KTS) was the client for the project. The foundation conferred Wing A of the new building as a gift to the University and consequently to the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg. The spatial consolidation provided by Mathematikon is expected to create synergies in research, teaching and communication among the scientists, all in all an essential foundation for success.
