In the „News from the Network” column, Research Alumni report on the exciting, interesting, or extraordinary projects they have carried out in collaboration with colleagues in Heidelberg. German researchers with a Heidelberg connection abroad are also invited to share their research with the Research Alumni circle.
The current issue features Dr Judith S. Birkenfeld and Apl. Prof. Dr Andreas Ruppel with their latest research publications. Judith Birkenfeld, Physicist at the Institute of Optics at the Spanish National Research Council (IO-CSIC) reports on the use of artificial intelligence for early diagnosis of skin carcinoma. Andreas Ruppel, long since member of the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, covers in his publication the matter of herd immunity and COVID-19 vaccinations in countries with poor populations.
