《社會日報》：近代社會、文藝小報。

1929年11月由吳微雨，胡雄飛，姚吉光，陳靈犀等十人合股創辦，1945年8月17日停刊。

初期因爲專載大報不登的社會新聞，又聘請了大學，法院，遊藝場等許多認爲特約撰述，因此銷數直綫上升。1930年10月整頓後，福爾摩斯報的總編助理陳靈犀被挖來做主編，他大刀闊斧地進行了改革，將過去的單開二版改為四開四版，刊登時事、電影、文學内容。除了自己每天撰文外，還邀請來張恨水寫社會言情小説《春明外史》，張春帆寫了武俠小説《大刀王五》， 何海鳴寫了娼門小説《故都殘夢》，汪優游寫了戲劇小時 《歌場冶史》等在報上連載；邀謝啼紅奚燕子、徐碧波、范煙橋、沈禹鍾、錢釋雲、程瞻廬、顧明道、范佩英、程小青等10人撰文，取名《胭脂印》，特闢“集錦小説”專欄輪番登載。這些措施，使得該報逐漸變成了一張政治、社會、文藝三者並兼的小報，很受讀者歡迎。30年代中期時，陳靈犀又向《立報》 看齊，先後闢過20多種副刊，邀請曹聚仁主編 《學術，思想 文化》和《火綫》，柯靈主編《社會》和《社會生活》，塵蕪主編《綜合藝術》等，使該報報務日益發達，並在30年代下半期擠進了一流小報行列，一時聲譽日隆。

滬戰爆發後，該報出版了抗戰號外。孤島時期復刊後，配合《導報》《文匯報》等進步報刊發表了系列抗戰消息。之後，陳靈犀籌資從胡雄飛手中接過了《社會日報》的版權，陳到中年後，又將報紙專給他人，直至1945年8月17日正式停刊。

大成老舊刊全文數據庫 holds one 58-page publication called "1931 nian she hui ri bao ji nian zhuan kan" 1931年社會日報紀年專刊. This publication was meant to commemorate She hui ri bao's 1000th issue (page 1: “本報三年來的縂報告", "社會日報紀念冊") and takes the format of a magazine ("ce” 冊) rather than a xiao bao, with about 32 articles, each several pages long.
