Heidelberg University Graduate Academy:
Film Night
We are very pleased to announce the Graduate Academy’s first Film Night! We cordially invite all doctoral candidates, postdocs and visiting scholars to join us in watching “The Reader” (“Der Vorleser”) on April 15th, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the University Guest House (Im Neuenheimer Feld 370).
The Film: She is mysterious and much older than he....but, for the length of a summer, they have a secret, passionate affair. Then one day, Hanna (Kate Winslet) disappears without a trace. Years later, Michael (David Kross/Ralph Fiennes) meets up with her again – as the defendant in a war-crimes trial. He learns about her terrible past as an S.S. concentration camp guard and discovers that he holds information that could change the outcome of the trial.
“The Reader” is Stephen Daldry’s oscar-nominated film adaptation of the world-wide bestseller “Der Vorleser”, written by Bernhard Schlink. It is the story of an impossible, unusual and intensive love affair but it is also a film about guilt, truth and reconciliation – and about one generation dealing with the crimes of another. Bestselling author Bernhard Schlink will hold the Poetics Lectureship 2010 in the coming summer semester at the University of Heidelberg.
After the film there will be time to socialize, talk about the film, meet other young researchers, or talk to the staff of the Graduate Academy. Admission is free and no registration is necessary.
We look forward to seeing you there!
