Enhancing Sustainability through linking research on Climate Change and Forest Governance

In face of increasing global temperature, forests and climate change become increasingly interlinked. Deforestation has resulted in a strong reduction in global forest area and remaining areas are increasingly at risk by droughts and forest fires. Declining forest areas endanger global efforts to mitigate global warming. To break this cycle, the governance of forests and climate governance needs to be integrated. However, existing governance arrangements to protect forests have remained fragmented and have lacked an integration with climate governance. This workshop brings together researchers working on the governance of climate change and/or forests to advance research on this interlinkage and uncover barriers to and enhancing factors for sustainable government arrangements.
