Arrival

For international guests arriving by plane, the closest airport to Heidelberg is the Frankfurt Airport. From here, there are long-distance and regional trains that travel to Mannheim and Heidelberg every day of the week. Alternatively, there are also good connections through long- and short-distance public transport between the Stuttgart Airport and Heidelberg.

Due to construction work on the Riedbahn, there is a replacement bus service between Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen/Frankfurt (Main) Fernbahnhof. Further information can be found at https://db-ersatzverkehr.de.

Those coming by train will want to arrive at either Heidelberg-Hauptbahnhof (“Main Station,” for suburban, regional, and long-distance trains) or Heidelberg-Altstadt (“Old City,” only for suburban and regional trains). Suburban trains S1, S2, and S3 travel from Mannheim to Heidelberg-Hauptbahnhof, while the S1 and S2 also stop at Heidelberg-Altstadt.

The following bus stops are the most convenient connections to the Neue Universität:

• Universitätsplatz (50 m walk – Bus 31, 32)
• Peterskirche (St Peter’s, 250 m walk – Bus 20, 30, 31, 32, 33)
• Marstallstraße (300 m walk – Bus 20, 31, 32, 33, 35, 735, 754, 755)
• Rathaus/Bergbahn (500 m walk – Bus 20, 33)

The Heidelberg-Altstadt station (1.3 km walk to the Neue Universität) has service from the S1, S2, S4, S5, and S51 lines as well as buses 20, 30, 33, 35, and 735.
