Tailor-made catalysts

Catalysts play a role in the production of over 90 per cent of all chemical and pharmaceutical products, and the synthesis of polymers would be unthinkable without their participation. At the University of Heidelberg Prof. Peter Hofmann and his group together with one of the largest German chemical companies, the BASF-AG, conduct research directed towards developing new catalysts for widely variable applications. Using computer technology, the researchers in Heidelberg succeed in designing and then preparing tailor-made catalysts for future applications.
