Semitic Dialectology: Crises and Change - 30 June – 2 July 2021
As it is true for all academic disciplines worldwide, the current pandemic crisis has struck Semitic dialectology which faces new challenges. Simultaneously, digital technology tools and innovative online networking bloomed despite the restrictions of the past months, and therefore we are encouraged to approach this crisis as a chance to renew the discussion of long awaited change in our field of research and study.
The conference Semitic Dialectology: Crises and Change is the first conference organised at the Department of Languages and Cultures of the Near East, Semitic Studies in Heidelberg in cooperation with the Center for Jewish Studies Heidelberg that will be exclusively held online, and invites all interested Semitists to speak on diverse topics from the broad spectrum of Semitic
dialectology.
Papers on dialectology and linguistics of spoken forms of Arabic, Aramaic and Maltese, as well as other Semitic languages – Hebrew, Ethiopian and Modern South Arabian, are welcome.
