Dr. Andrea Acle-Kreysing is associate researcher in the Chair of Modern History at Heidelberg University. After her undergraduate studies at El Colegio de México, she obtained in 2007 a master degree in the Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge, and in 2012 completed her doctorate in the field of intellectual history, also in Cambridge.

Afterwards she came to Germany, funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, to work and teach, first at the LMU Munich and then at the University of Leipzig.

Her research focuses on the 19th and 20th centuries, especially in the fields of intellectual history, as well as global and migration history. In her dissertation (Campus), she analyses the complex relations between religion, state formation and national identity in nineteenth-century Spain. Her articles concentrate on historical agents who act as mediators between different cultural as well as geographical spaces. In a recent anthology, for example, she discusses the influence of Alexander von Humboldt on successive generations of scientists (German Life and Letters).

Her current Habilitation project addresses the experiences of German-speaking antifascist exiles in Mexico, Argentina, and Bolivia during the 1930s and 1940s. Her aim is to underline the interactions between exile organisations and local actors, as well as to shed new light on the perception of the Holocaust beyond Europe.
