Current research project

The History of Gypsy Lore Society – from Gypsyloreism to Criminal Biology

The primary objective of this research is to provide a comprehensive examination of Gypsylorism and its significant influence on the field of social sciences, specifically through examining the development of the Gypsy Lore Society (GLS) from its beginnings in the early Romany Rye period of knowledge production until the end of World War II. This project examines historical records and scholarly works of Gypsylorists, emphasizing key figures such as Heinrich Moritz Gottlieb Grellmann, Robert Knox, or George Borrow. Beyond the analysis of individual scholarly contributions, this study also places significant emphasis on an in-depth analysis of the Journal of the Gypsy Lore Society from its debut in July 1888 (vol. 1, no. 1, under President Charles Godfrey Leland) to the issue of January – April 1946 (vol. 25, no. 1, under President Augustus John).
