Newsletter
IBF University of Heidelberg, 4th quarter 2020
Dear
IBF-Users,
just before an obviously
very quiet christmas time, we would like to inform you by this
newsletter about some news and ask you to consider the following
rules:
Hygienic Measures
Corona – urgent advice
Like stated in
the general hygienic rules of the university, it is essential to
follow the rules inside the building, especially also lifts,
personnel shuttles and experimental areas. This relates mainly to the
number of persons and distance. In the KEB some of the surgery sites
have been closed. Only 2 persons/site are allowed with distance of
2metres. Thank you!
Non-Technical
Project Summary (NTP)
According to the
decision 220/569/EU there needs to be a new format for the NTPs. This
has to be applied for all projects, which are going to be accepted or
extended after the 1st of December 2020. Up to date there
is no new format available at the BfR. This is relevant for all new
proposals, extensions and Anzeigen. The following procedure is an
option for the moment:
1. Submit proposals after release of the new format
(expected in January, February, March)
2. Use the old NTP format, which leads to the fact
that there is no formal acceptance possible, but the commission can
proceed to evaluate the project. The NTP then needs to be one more
time in the new format
3. Submit proposals without NTP with the remark,
that the NTP will follow as soon as the new format is available
Please get in touch with
your Animal Welfare Officer to clarify which option is best
applicable.
Use of different
mouse lines
In all proposals
and all killing licenses it needs to be announced which mouse lines
are used. Only these lines can be used in the respective context.
This is a strict requirement by our local authorities. In case new
lines are planned to be used, there needs to be a formal extension of
the project. If it is a killing project a letter is sufficient.
Please always involve your respective Animal Welfare Officer
Seminar certificates
The billing for seminar
certificates will not take place in 2021 anymore. Due to the
possibility to organize the seminars in an online format, there will
not be costs on our side anymore. Dr. Miriam Vogt will send you the
certificates via e-mail. In this context we would like to announce
our next seminar at 13th of January 2021:
13.01.2020, 15:00 Uhr
Reizreiche Umgebungen und Hirnplastizität (german)
Prof. Dr. Gerd
Kempermann, RG Genomics of Regeneration, CRTD - Center for Regenerative
Therapies, TU Dresden

SOP Transportation of
animals
On our homepage you can find
the latest SOPs about the procedure of transportation of animals (-> SOP Transport) . Since most
animals are genetically modified, it needs to be considered that this
according to gene tech regulations resembles a transportation of
dangerous goods (UN3245), which requires an adequate (actually
certified) containment of the animals.
Cooling periods
If experiments are conducted
at different locations or facilities, it needs to be regarded that
there is a cooling period of 48 hours. This is also communicated
during the personal instruction at the start of an experiment. This
rule is valid for all kind of animal contacts (rodents), i.e. working
with animals outside the IBF need to be considered, not only the
former attendance in an animal facility. This is also true for
working in the Maushotel, if thereafter it is planned to work in the
KEB.
Billing form
Since some weeks you receive
a billing form after acceptance of an animal project. The information
asked here is about the origin of financing, which leads to
respective billing of the service. For internal conditions it is
decisive to have information about public funding and billing within
the university as institution. This procedure is required by our
central university administration.
Update of addresses
After move of the clinics for
surgery and anesthiology some addresses have changed. This needs to
be communicated to the authorities in Karlsruhe in form of an
official letter. The respective animal welfare officer needs to be
involved. For new proposals it is essential to change this
information in the “Personenbogen”. The same is true for billing
addresses.
All the best for 2021 and
stay healthy!
