Animal Welfare
1. Updated Forms
The
Regierungspräsidium Karlsruhe has made formal changes. Please
use the latest versions of:
- Genehmigungsantrag
- Anlage Biometrie
- Erweiterungsantrag
- Personenbogen
Download the most recent forms from our
Animal Welfare Officers' homepage: https://www.uni-heidelberg.de/tierschutz/index.html
2. Genehmigungsantrag Nr. 7
When describing your literature search in
Nr. 7, include alternative databases such as NAT, Altweb, TSAR, or
SMAFIRA to avoid additional questions from the commission.
3. Breeding Calculation
Optimize your breeding strategy using the
breeding calculators available on our animal welfare homepage.
Mosaic Vivarium
The new Mosaic Vivarium (MoVi) database is
now operational, integrating about 3,500 animals from 16 research
groups. For questions or data changes, contact Team.Movi@ibf.uni-heidelberg.de
or visit our website.
Ordering
Animals
Use the current valid forms for ordering
animals. Ensure:
- Complete and correct information
- Professional email address usage
- Adherence to ordering dates for rodents
and pigs
Use of Xenopus laevis
As of August 2024, Xenopus laevis is labeled
an invasive species. Ordering these animals is currently not
possible, but oocysts may be ordered as an alternative: https://www.xenbase.org/xenbase/other/obtain.do
Animal
Transportation
Please follow these guidelines:
- Use secure, escape-proof containers
- Ensure animal identification is
possible
- Use personal access cards for
handover-locks
- Transport via connecting basement
floors when possible
- Return cage materials
Breeding & Mouse Line Usage
Increasingly, very old animals are kept in
breeding barriers. Lines imported for scientific use are held too long
without being utilized, making further breeding impossible. To
address animal welfare and resource limitations, we request careful
planning regarding import, breeding dimensions, and the timing of
experiments.
S1 Instruction
An online S1 Instruction link and
certificate of attendance will be available for 6 weeks starting in
December, in both German and English.
Personnel De-registration
Inform us promptly when personnel leave the
institution.
Best regards,
Sabine Chourbaji
