Vita
Markus Baumann studied political science and economics (M.A.) at the University of Mannheim. Between 2010 and 2017 he worked as a research and teaching associate at the Collaborative Research Center 884 – Political Economy of Reforms (SFB884, University of Mannheim), at the Professorship for the Political System of Germany (University of Oldenburg), at the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES), and at the Department of Political Science, Lund University.
In his dissertation (2016/17) with the title „Individual Parliamentary Behavior and Responsiveness in Non-Partisan Contexts“, he explores individualized preference formation and decision making by legislators in European parliaments.
Since October 2017, Markus Baumann is a research and teaching fellow at the Institute of Political Science (IPW) at Heidelberg University. His emphases in research and teaching are on the empirical analysis of parliaments, parties and party competition. In this context, his current research concentrates on questions relating to statements parties make in campaigns directly prior to elections as well as the consequences that increasing polarization has for legislative speech and legislators’ co-operation behavior.
