University of Heidelberg Maintains its Leading Position among Germany’s Research-Intensive Universities

In the CHE research ranking for 2007 the University of Heidelberg again displays a particularly high proportion of research-intensive Faculties putting it up amongst the leaders
In eight of the 13 subjects under scrutiny, the University of Heidelberg was able to qualify for inclusion in the group of research-intensive universities and is thus up among the leaders in terms of outstanding research achievements. It established itself in the top group for the subjects biology, chemistry, dentistry, English and American studies, mathematics, medicine, pharmacy and physics.
Other institutions also figuring in the top group are the University of Frankfurt am Main, the University and the Technical University of Munich and the Universities of Freiburg, Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. 40 universities belong to the middle group, with outstanding research achievements in at least one subject. 17 universities display no strong research intensity in any of the subjects investigated.
The CHE research ranking is based on the research-related data material of the CHE higher-education rankings. 16 subjects were investigated in all. The material has been updated for education studies, electrotechnology and information technology, English and American studies, history, mechanical engineering and psychology. Alongside factual material drawn upon for the constitution of the top, middle and bottom groups, professors were also consulted on the reputation of the various faculties.
