Heidelberg University third in Germany
Ruperto Carola again takes its place among the best three universities in Germany: In the QS World Ranking 2016/2017, Heidelberg places third behind the Technical University of Munich (60) and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (68). Along with the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (98), a total of four German universities made it into the world's top 100. At the international level, Heidelberg ranks 72nd; it places 21st in all of Europe.
The QS World University Ranking rates academic reputation, faculty/student ratio, and citations per faculty. Other criteria include employer reputation and proportion of international faculty and students. Another 25 institutions were added to the number of universities ranked this year, putting the total number at over 900. In 2014, the QS company substantially altered its methodology for calculating the ranking results. The changes were first implemented last year.
