Argentine novelist Martín Kohan reads from his book on events during the last military dictatorship in Argentina – Subsequent discussion chaired by Prof. Gerhard Poppenberg of Heidelberg University’s Department of Romance Studies
On 3 June 2009 Argentinian writer Martín Kohan will be coming to the TiKK Theatre at the Karlstorbahnhof Culture Centre (Heidelberg) to read extracts from his novel Dos veces junio. Matthias Paul will read the corresponding parts of the German translation. Subsequently there will be an opportunity for discussion of the novel chaired by Gerhard Poppenberg, professor of Romance literature, and Karin Saban, lecturer in Spanish and doctoral student at Heidelberg University.

Martín Kohan was born in Buenos Aires in 1967 and has published several novels and collections of short stories. Also well-known are his essays on Eva Perón and Walter Benjamin. Peter Kultzen’s German translation of the novel Dos veces junio (Zweimal Juni) has been published by Suhrkamp Verlag.

The novel tells the story of a young recruit who reports in an outwardly impassive manner on the atrocities of the Argentine military dictatorship between 1976 and 1982.
