Universität Heidelberg Again Best German University in QS World University Rankings

Heidelberg University asserted its leading position in the newly released 2014 QS World University Rankings. Like last year, Ruperto Carola ranked first among the German universities. It also fared better internationally, pulling ahead one position to 49th among the world’s best universities. Ruperto Carola was also ranked as the top university in Germany in the recently published Shanghai Ranking, thus placing it first in two internationally recognised listings.
“The latest rankings confirm our efforts to pursue excellent research in international networks and to educate young researchers at the highest level. The results are impressive proof of Heidelberg University's preeminent position as an internationally recognised research institution”, states Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eitel, rector of Heidelberg University. In the comparison with European universities, Heidelberg retained is excellent position at 14th.
In the QS World University Rankings’ results by faculty area, Heidelberg took first place in Germany in the life sciences and medicine, as in previous years. In the worldwide comparison, they rank 32nd. Other subjects that placed in the world’s best 50 again include the natural sciences (44) and the humanities (36), which this year also ranked among the top 3 in Germany.
The QS World University Ranking rates academic reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, employer reputation and the proportion of international faculty and students. The analysis is based on official statistics as well as surveys among academics and employers.
