Vice-Presidents Re-elected

The four Vice-Presidents of Heidelberg University, Prof. Dr. Beatrix Busse, Prof. Dr. A. Stephen K. Hashmi, Prof. Dr. Dieter W. Heermann and Prof. Dr. Óscar Loureda, have been re-elected to a second term by the Senate of Ruperto Carola. The vote passed by a large majority in the Senate session on 21 June 2016. Each Vice-President will serve in the university administration for an additional three-year term, beginning on October 1st of this year.
Anglicist Beatrix Busse (b. 1973) assumed a professorship in the Department of English in 2011 and is a member of the Scientific Directorate of the Heidelberg School of Education. As Vice-President Student Affairs and Teaching, Prof. Busse is responsible for administering educational programmes and graduate studies. Research-oriented teaching also falls under her purview.
Chemist A. Stephen K. Hashmi (b. 1963) has been teaching and pursuing research at the Institute of Organic Chemistry since 2007. He serves as Vice-President Research and Structure and is responsible for research, cooperative research, core facilities, and cooperation projects with non-university research institutions. Prof. Hashmi is First Vice-President.
Physicist Dieter W. Heermann (b. 1955) has been a professor at the Institute of Theoretical Physics since 1989. He is also a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing. Prof. Heermann is Vice-President International Affairs and in charge of contacts and collaborations abroad. He also represents the university in international academic organisations.
Linguist Óscar Loureda (b.1974) has taught and conducted research at the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (IÜD) since 2008 and is also its executive director. He is also an executive director of the Centre for Ibero-American Studies. As Vice-President Quality Development, Prof. Loureda is responsible for quality management in all operational areas of Heidelberg University.
