Extending Part-Time Early Retirement

18 November 2020

The option of part-time early retirement for severely disabled employees has been extended by another five years

The state employers’ association and the civil servants’ union (Beamtenbund und Tarifunion) first agreed on the collective agreement on part-time early retirement for severely disabled employees in 2012. It was extended in 2016 – initially until the end of 2020. This collective agreement with the same content has now been extended to 31 December 2025.

The extension of the collective agreement presupposes for both employees and civil servants that the person is severely disabled within the meaning of §2(2) Volume 5 of the German Social Security Code and hence has a disability level of at least 50.

The collective agreement on part-time early retirement in the State of Baden-Württemberg (TV ATZ BW) enables severely disabled employees to reduce their working hours to 50 percent and to be paid at the rate of 83 percent of their previous net pay. TV ATZ BW foresees the change to part-time early retirement as an optional provision from the age of 55 and as a right for employees who have turned 60, as long as there are no urgent service-related or operational grounds to the contrary.
