- Prof. Dr. Pedram Ghamisi, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf / Lancaster University (UK)
The convergence of artificial intelligence and Earth observation technologies holds great promise for addressing global challenges such as environmental monitoring, disaster response, and climate change analysis. However, this rapid integration demands a careful examination of the responsible dimensions of AI in these fields. In this talk, Prof. Ghamisi will provide examples in which the intersection of AI and EO plays a central role, but he will also look at them from the viewpoint of responsible AI practices. These examples cover a variety of subjects, such as AI for social good, geoprivacy preservation, resource-efficient AI development using weak supervision, and community engagement, transparency, and fairness through open science and benchmarking, ensuring that ethical considerations remain at the forefront of these advancements.
