Interview with Mateus Nishiyama HAI welcomes its 20,000 member
Another small milestone has been reached: we have now welcomed our 20,000th HAI member! Behind the membership number 20,000 is 21-year-old Brazilian student Mateus Nishiyama, who came to Heidelberg as an Erasmus student for the winter semester 2023/2024, which he liked so much that he now wants to complete a Master's degree here.
We are delighted that his path has led him to our university and that we can welcome him as a new member of our network - which we did in person at the HAI office in Marstallstraße on 8 December 2023!
Mateus Nishiyama got a taste of "international air" at a young age: The son of Brazilian parents with partly Japanese roots was born in Japan, but returned to Brazil with his family at the age of four, where he grew up.He has been studying International Relations at the Universidade de Coïmbra in Portugal since 2020 and came to Heidelberg University for a semester in October 2023 as part of the Erasmus program, where he attended courses in political science and cultural studies. This gave him the opportunity to get to know the German university system and gain his first impressions of student life in Heidelberg. As a result, he now plans to return to Heidelberg after completing his Bachelor's degree in Portugal to complete a Master's degree in Cultural Studies at Heidelberg University.
Mateus Nishiyama was introduced to the Heidelberg Alumni International network by the Career Service. He registered in order to get in touch with other Brazilians in Heidelberg and possibly meet former students of his desired degree program and exchange ideas with them. We hope that Mr. Nishiyama can take advantage of these opportunities and benefit from them!
