HAInews 2023/01 Former Vice President of the Bundestag Antje Vollmer died

Former Green Party politician and Heidelberg alumna Antje Vollmer died a few weeks before her 80th birthday. The first vice president of the Green Party in the Bundestag, who studied theology in Heidelberg in the 1960s, died on March 15, 2023, after a long and serious illness.

Antje Vollmer was a member of the Green Party's first parliamentary group in the Bundestag from 1983, which she did not join until two years later, however, and was a member of the Bundestag with interruptions until 2005. She took on changing functions in the parliamentary group and became the first Green vice president of the Bundestag in 1994. She took a very critical view of the development of the Greens, which she also commented on in an interview in our “Heidelberg Profiles” column – as well as on her experiences as a student in Heidelberg in the 1960s before the time of the student unrest: “I experienced the university – in general and in Heidelberg – as a very ambitious, intellectually sometimes brilliant liberal institution, with great professorial personalities who demanded a lot but were highly interesting.”
