HAInews 2023/01 Lecture Series „Heidelberg Talks Online“
Alumnae and alumni around the world who are interested in lectures on a wide variety of topics followed by a discussion have a new format at their disposal: The “Heidelberg Talks Online” (HTO), which the Rhine-Neckar Regional Group of the DAAD-Freundeskreis (DAAD Alumni & Friends) has been offering as an interactive format since April 2020. Originating at the beginning of the Corona pandemic as an alternative to face-to-face events, HTO has since established itself as an independent format.
Around 120 topics from a wide variety of fields ranging from medicine and psychology to philosophy, literature, politics or history to natural sciences or environmental issues have already been presented and discussed. For example, a Syrian philosophy teacher reported on his refugee experience, a pediatrician spoke about his work for “Médecins Sans Frontières” (MSF) in Africa, a bioscientist explained the fascinating world of hermit crabs, an activist of the “Last Generation” presented the concept of the Climate Protection Alliance, an Imam spoke about liberal Islam, or a former DAAD lecturer discussed the question of whether literature can be evaluated objectively. The series is organized by alumnus Henning Belle. The lectures, which usually take place on Tuesday or Friday evenings, are held in German or in English and are as an online format also accessible to HAI members from around the world.
Such events, organized by active alumni, make it possible to expand alumni offerings beyond the university's internal capacities and also reflect the diverse interests of our alumni. If you also have ideas for an offer that could be interesting for other network members, be it as a regular series of events or as a one-off event, please contact us by e-mail, we look forward to your suggestions and ideas! service@alumni.uni-heidelberg.de
