Interactive permanent exhibition “Timeline Evolution” supported by means from the Scientific Heritage Fund

Donations to the Scientific Heritage Fund contribute to extensive restoration of the specimens

Embedded in modernized premises, a newly developed, interactive permanent exhibition "Timeline Evolution" was established. It is based on the traditional zoological collection of Heidelberg University which is more than 250 years old, The old specimens have been extensively restored and embedded in the exhibition, so they can be presented in a contemporary scientific way. The aim of “Timeline Evolution“ is to trace biological evolution and biodiversity on Earth with the help of underlying genetic information (DNA). This kind of concept is new and combines latest molecular and organismic findings. Thanks to the genomes of almost all large organism groups that are available today, it is possible to illustrate evolutionary processes for research and teaching purposes as well as to explain them to an interested public in a science-based and understandable way. The exhibition concept not only wants to show  interrelationships and processes but also the latest research approaches and findings as well as important questions such as the impacts of climate change on endangered biodiversity in all habitats.

Donations and endowment contributions to the fund are possible at all times and will help the university to support projects in the future.
