League of European Research Universities LERU at Heidelberg University

The League of European Research Universities (LERU) is a European network of research-intensive universities of which Heidelberg University is a founding member. 24 European universities now belong to the network.

LERU is a prominent advocate of promoting European research universities. The LERU working groups draw up positions on research, innovation and university education. LERU influences EU policy-making by means of policy papers, statements and events.

LERU groups

Apart from the personal involvement of the rectors, the vice-rectors, academics and leading staff members participate actively in over 20 LERU groups.

Some of the LERU groups are primarily policy-oriented and have the task of contributing to the development of high-caliber, coordinated position papers in order to influence policy-making at EU level. Other groups concentrate on the exchange of good practices or deal with policy issues affecting their disciplines.

Each of the groups are facilitated by a 3 to 5-person steering board and generally come together in plenary sessions twice a year.
