Randy Stockbridge is a guest at the Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center with a research fellowship from the Humboldt Foundation
The American bioscientist Prof. Dr Randy Stockbridge is currently a guest researcher at Ruperto Carola with funding from the Humboldt Foundation: Since early November 2024, the scientist from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, USA, has been at the Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center conducting research into structural biology and the biochemistry of membrane proteins, working alongside Prof. Dr Cristina Paulino and her team. For her five-month stay, Prof. Stockbridge has received the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award from the Humboldt Foundation.
With her work on membrane proteins, the American scientist is providing groundbreaking insights into microbial physiologies, molecular structures and mechanisms of membrane transport. During her stay in Heidelberg, Prof. Stockbridge plans to deepen her research on fundamental questions of membrane transport mechanisms. “Randy Stockbridge’s contributions expand our understanding of how microbes adapt to human-shaped environments. These research results provide valuable insights into the spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria and open up new prospects for strategies in microbial remediation,” explains Prof. Paulino, who leads the Structural Biology research group at the Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center.
The Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and awarded by the Humboldt Foundation to recognize outstanding research achievements by international scientists. The award aims to enable them to conduct their chosen research projects at an academic institution in Germany in collaboration with local specialists and colleagues.
