Study New Scholarship Programme for Physics Students

Heidelberg-based company SNP finances two scholarships annually
Students beginning a physics course or those in later semesters are invited to apply for a place in a new scholarship programme at Heidelberg University that has been launched by the software and consulting company SNP SE. Prof. Dr Bernhard Eitel, Rector of Ruperto Carola, and SNP CEO Dr Jens Amail have just signed a grant agreement to this effect. The scholarship is intended to support students in developing their talents and potential in the best way and in successfully managing their degree course despite possible biographical obstacles. At the same time, it aims to boost the area of MINT subjects.
The SNP SE scholarship goes to students wishing to start on, or already enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s course in physics at Heidelberg University. It is granted for two semesters and may be extended, as appropriate. The grant agreement provides for two scholarships to be awarded annually from the coming winter semester. The programme is initially planned to last five years. The Faculty of Physics and Astronomy will select the scholarship-holders.
“Education is the foundation of a good, self-determined life and a well-functioning society. The right to education is a fundamental right, and with the grant agreement we hope to do our part by paving the way towards a bright future for students,” says SNP-CEO Jens Amail. With the scholarship the Heidelberg-based company remembers its deceased founder, Dr Andreas Schneider-Neureither, who studied physics himself at Heidelberg University and also earned his doctorate here in 1995. According to the company, Schneider-Neureither was closely connected to the region and involved in different social, cultural and scientific projects all his life.
Prof. Dr André Butz, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy, underlines: “With funding instruments like these scholarships we can encourage young people to pursue their interests and talents, and study their desired subject even if their life circumstances do not immediately allow this. Of course, we are equally pleased that this scholarship programme will give a boost to the MINT subjects.” The funding agreement was signed on 27 July 2023.
