Award Rector Receives Highest Honour from the Charles University in Prague

Award of the University Gold Medal
Prof. Dr Bernhard Eitel, Rector of Heidelberg University, has been awarded the highest honour the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, can bestow. He received the University Gold Medal in recognition of his achievements in promoting relations between the University of Prague and Heidelberg University. The medal was presented by Prof. Dr Tomáš Zima, Prof. Eitel’s counterpart, during the annual meeting of the European University Alliance 4EU+, which took place on 4 and 5 November 2021 in Heidelberg.
Heidelberg University has for many years entertained intensive relations with the Charles University in Prague, one of the most important European partner universities of Ruperto Carola. In granting its medals of honour, Charles University pays tribute to notable figures who have made a particularly outstanding contribution to developing the university and its faculty, or who have greatly advanced the promotion of science, learning and academic freedom. The 4EU+ Alliance is a group of six research-intensive universities in Europe. Besides Heidelberg and Prague, its members are Sorbonne University (Paris) and the Universities of Warsaw, Copenhagen, and Milan.
