Press Release No. 111/2024
7 October 2024

Rector of Ruperto Carola welcomes the new students on 14 October on University Square

Heidelberg University will receive its newly enrolled students with a Welcome Day on 14 October 2024. On University Square in the Old City, Prof. Dr Frauke Melchior, Rector of Ruperto Carola, will greet all the students beginning their course in the winter semester 2024/2025 and those who started on their degree program in the past summer semester. Greetings will also be brought by Heidelberg’s First Mayor Jürgen Odszuck as well as Carolin Roder and Fritz Beck, the chairs of the Constituted Student Body. The musical backdrop will come from the Collegium Musicum under the baton of University Music Director Michael Sekulla. The fresher welcome event starts at 10am.

Following the greetings, between 11am and 1pm, the new students will have the opportunity at an information fair to find out about the university’s advisory and service organizations. The Central Student Advisory Office, the Career Service provided by heiSKILLS – the Competence and Language Centre at Ruperto Carola – and the University Library will present themselves, as will the Citizens Office (Bürgeramt) of the City of Heidelberg and various student initiatives. These and other facilities accompanying everyday student life will have stands in the New University building, which is situated directly on University Square. At the Career Service stand, the freshers will receive a “bib bag”.

Other program items are the campus guided tours through the Old City, taking place every half hour between 11am and 1pm. Here the newly enrolled students can get to know their future course locations and important contact points. Registration for the guided tours takes place online. Furthermore, the first-semester students can set out on a virtual tour of discovery about the campus by means of a special app, retrievable via a QR code on the event page of the Welcome Day.
