Local people of Sindh consider measles as a necessary-sacred illness. Despite their different belief system, even Muslims draw its etiology in Hindu mythology that it is a manifestation of the Hindu deity, Maata. To deal with it, people play Bhajjan and observe various rituals. Based on Dr Ali's PhD fieldwork, this talk will focus on such lay perceptions and practices that prevail in Pakistan's Sindh province.
