ASR A4.2 Break Rooms Break Rooms
ASR A4.2 contains information about the need to set up break rooms and how they should be designed.
For employees working shifts longer than 6 hours, they are legally required to take at least one break.
The needed break rooms and break areas need to have a floor space of at least 1.00 m2 per person using the room or area at the same time (including space for seating and a table). Areas for additional furnishings, entrances and traffic routes must be added.
A break room must be at least 6.00 m2 big and need to have a line of sight to the outside (e.g. window).
The extent to which break rooms and break areas are equipped depends on the number of users present at the same time. Seating with backrests and tables must be provided for these. The inventory must be easy to clean. A waste container with a lid must be provided
Tea Kitchens
Tea kitchens (whether near the laboratory area or in the office wing) are areas in which electrical devices are usually operated without monitoring and with active heating sources. There is a risk of fire and smoke development here. For this reason, special attention should always be exercised. Tea kitchens should never be part of a hallway. The doors to tea kitchens should always be kept closed. Doors with keep-open systems that close automatically in the event of a fire are recommended. In kitchens, care should be taken to ensure that coffee machines with heating plates are always placed on non-flammable surfaces.
Facilities for pregnant women and nursing mothers
If pregnant women or nursing mothers are employed, facilities for lying down, resting and breastfeeding must be available at the workplace or in the immediate vicinity to ensure that they can be used at all times. Privacy must be guaranteed during use.
Facilities for lying down, resting and breastfeeding must be padded and provided with a washable or disposable covering.
