Working and Researching Abroad DAAD Eastern Partnerships

Within the framework of partnership agreements between Heidelberg University and the following universities in Central and Eastern Europe

  • Eötvös-Loránd University, Budapest
  • Semmelweis University, Budapest
  • Jagiellonen University, Krakow
  • Karls-University, Prague

funding is available for Heidelberg scientists and scholars, postdocs, doctoral students, and administrative staff for short research/training periods at the partner universities. The particular partnership agreements allow a total yearly quota between 50 and 120 days. Typically, funding is provided for a period of up to three weeks per person.

Employees of all faculties/institutions can apply (exception Semmelweis University: only medical faculties, sports sciences and biosciences). Funding will usually be provided for research visits as well as stays for the preparation of joint scientific projects/publications. Training residencies for professional development are also possible.

DUration

Typically, funding is provided for a period of up to three weeks.

Scholarship benefits

Reimbursement of travel expenses in the amount of the lowest class of travel. Accommodation and daily allowance will be provided by the host university.

Prerequisites

Employment contract at Heidelberg University. For adjunct professors/adjunct staff a letter of consent is required from the dean’s office. Doctoral students without an employment contract can receive funding, but their travel expenses can only be reimbursed up to the maximum travel cost amount set by the funding organization DAAD for the respective destination country.

Application Deadline

Short-term applications for November/December 2024 possible up to and including November 13, 2024

The exact period of stay must not yet be definite by the time of application, but a desired duration should be set. The International Relations Office shall be informed about the exact period at least 3 months before the beginning of the stay.

Additional information

Travel, as well as all connected preparations including sufficient insurances are to be taken care of by the traveler. Accommodation in the destination country is typically provided by the hosting university.
