Project lead: Prof. Dr. Barbara Mittler und Frederike Schneider-Vielsäcker

Based on Popo Fan's short film “Wegen Hegel” this project tries to access the problem of discrimination in Germany through German and Chinese philosophy. In this approach, the project creates knowledge spaces in which pressing problems in the construction of cultural, sexual and gender identities are explored. This is achieved by taking transcultural dynamics and the transfer of knowledge between science and society into account. The project benefits of the easily accessible medium of film to achieve the promotion of dissemination of knowledge.
The project brings together scholars and students from the Center for Asian and Transcultural Studies (CATS) and the Heidelberg Center for Transcultural Studies (HCTS), director Popo Fan, members of the Asian and queer community, and the general public to promote a productive intercultural exchange of knowledge through filmmaking processes, workshops, and screenings. The project provides a platform for these marginalized communities to express their identities, thus increasing the understanding of queer and Asian American people and their visibility in society. In addition, the project connects many dimensions of culture, society and history in public events and in this way creates a unique multi-perspective view of our contemporary lifeworld.
