Research Service Financial Conflict of interest Policy

Financial Conflict of Interest Policy (FCOI) for Grants/Awards of the US Public Health Services (PHS) Agencies and the US National Science Foundation (NSF), e.g. National Institutes of Health (NIH).

This guideline (see documents below) is required to participate as a principal or sub-recipient in tenders issued by the US Public Health Services (PHS) Agencies (e.g. National Institutes of Health - NIH) and the US National Science Foundation (NSF). It applies to all institutions of Heidelberg University, including the two medical faculties, but only to employees in third-party funded projects sponsored by U.S. health agencies (e.g. NIH, NSF).

The guideline requires applicants to complete a declaration of significant financial interests before submitting an application (see documents below). During the course of the project, this declaration must be regularly updated by all employees. There is also an obligation to complete an online training on financial conflicts of interest provided by the NIH before the start of the project (see link on the right).

Researchers planning to apply to any of the funding organisations mentioned above are encouraged to contact the Research Division at an early stage. Researchers from the two medical faculties are kindly requested to contact their faculty contacts.
