Due to the interactions between the geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere, the Earth’s surface – and with it, the human habitat – is constantly changing.

Course Content
Where it is studied as an additional subject at Master’s level, Geology covers geographical disciplines including geology, palaeontology, mineralogy and environmental geochemistry. Students gain an overview of the system consisting in earth, stones and minerals, and the development of life. Within three semesters, students develop an understanding of the earth’s history, geodynamics, geochemistry, magmatism, sediments, environmental geochemistry, and isotope techniques. Analysis methods such as light microscopy are practiced in addition to traditional on-site methods. As part of didactic projects, students address topics with relevance to schooling and teaching. In the final semester, students complete a Master’s thesis.
Course Structure
Where it is studied as an additional subject at Master’s level, the Geology programme includes lectures, field trips, practice classes, and projects. The degree programme includes two subject specific compulsory modules, which students compile from a selection of 12 available courses. Alongside this, students complete four compulsory modules which focus on pedagogy and didactics. The Master’s thesis constitutes a final module.
Geology can be studied as a subject comprising 90 credits (standard period of study 3 semesters).
