Course Content
The German Studies degree programme provides students with an entry-level professional qualification and equips them with the necessary skills to be able to independently resolve linguistic, literary, and cultural-history questions and problems.
Course Structure
The degree programme is divided into
- an Introductory Phase (1st and 2nd semesters)
- an Intermediary Phase (3rd and 4th semesters)
- a Specialisation Phase (5th and 6th semesters)
An orientation proof must be provided no later than at the end of the second semester. This will take place during the study period. When the degree programme is pursued as a minor, the orientation examination will consist of successful completion of the Introduction to Medieval Studies (Middle High German) course. The minor in German Studies (25%) requires a specialisation in one of three subjects: German Linguistics, Old German Philology, or Modern German Literature. A final oral examination is not required.
Knowledge of Latin is not required for the BA minor (25% option). Instead, students must have knowledge of two foreign languages (level B1). Latin may be one of the two required foreign languages.
