Course Content
Graduates of the Master of Education degree programme with Italian as an extension subject are qualified to teach at Germany’s highest secondary school level (gymnasiale Oberstufe). The degree programme provides students with a combination of comprehensive specialised subject knowledge in the areas of literature, linguistics, and cultural studies as well as specialised didactic skills that will aid them in teaching, reinforcing, and deepening their students’ language skills.
Course Structure
The specialised language modules comprise 90 credits; the specialised didactics modules comprise 15 credits. An additional 15 credits are provided by the Master’s thesis in the extension subject. The language-specific portion of the degree programme is divided into three phases - introductory, intermediate, and advanced - followed by the Master’s module, Master's thesis, and final oral examination. These are supplemented by two specialised didactics modules.
In the blended module, subject-specific knowledge and specialised didactics intersect. Depending upon the courses being offered, this module will be made up of either two related courses or of a single course incorporating content from both areas, which may include a variety of teaching and learning formats, ranging from traditional seminars to project work.
Italian can be studied as a subject comprising 120 credits (standard period of study 4 semesters).
