Course Content

The degree programme component for Political Science in the consecutive Master of Education for teaching in German secondary schools (Gymnasium) is designed to build upon a successfully completed Bachelor’s degree programme of at least three years with relevance to two subjects, and to teaching. The Master of Education prepares students to complete state-recognised training to become a teacher in a German secondary school (Gymnasium). The degree programme combines specialist subject knowledge with specialised didactics, and is characterised by a focus on practical skills required in the classroom.

Students become familiar with political theories, concepts and methods. Having completed a relevant Bachelor’s degree programme and the Master of Education, graduates will have the specialist subject knowledge required to teach the entirety of the political science curriculum taught in German secondary schools. Students also learn to reflect critically on the didactic concepts which are central to the teaching of political science; and gain practical experience of implementing such approaches; planning, developing and delivering lessons based on the specialist topics addressed in the programme.
