Course Content
The postgraduate Master’s degree programme in Theological Studies is aimed at students with professional experience and a completed higher education degree programme who are interested in transferring to the Evangelical Church of Baden’s rectory. The academic programme covers all theological disciplines and reflects previous professional experience with a view to future practice. Graduates acquire the necessary specialised knowledge, have an overview of the interconnections in the individual subjects and are able to apply scientific methods and findings.
Specific requirements for the academic programme are proof of language skills in Hebrew and Ancient Greek (evidenced through, e.g., completion of the basic course in Ancient Greek) as well as passed biblical studies examination for the Old Testament and the New Testament. Language and biblical studies examinations can be retaken during stage 1 studies.
Course Structure
The academic programme consists of modules in the two exegetical areas Old and New Testament, in Church History and Theological History, in Systematic Theology, in Religious studies/Intercultural Theology and in Practical Theology.
Students acquire a comprehensive overview, a methodological-scientific foundation and exemplary consolidation in all subject modules. One area of specialisation in practical theology is on homiletics and religious pedagogy.
A further module on the hermeneutics of professional practice, which accompanies the entire Master’s programme, reflects on specialised findings related to the future professional practice of pastors but also emphasises existing professional experience.
Examination components for these modules are completed in the course of study. After completion of the modules, students must start writing their Master's thesis.
