Services for international students Graduation Completion grant for international students

The International Relations Department has limited funds to provide financial support to international students in the last semester of their studies. The aim is to help students successfully complete their studies during this crucial phase.

Who can apply?

International students students in their final semester with good grades,

  • who have got into financial difficulties through no fault of their own and have no other means of financial support.
  • and / or have previously been able to support themselves and now have to reduce their part-time employment in order to successfully complete their studies.

Financial support from the Graduation Completion Grant is NOT intended for the following cases:

  • If you have not taken care of sufficient financing before starting your studies.
  • If you are able to finance your studies to the end through your own savings or support from your parents.
  • For fieldwork / a stay in another country.
  • If you don´t have sufficient funds for the tuitions fees for international students - please see if you can apply for a tuition fee waiver, see link on the right.
  • If you belong to one of the following groups: International students, exchange or short-term students, students in post-graduate master´s degree programmes, doctoral students (please inquire at the Graduate Academy about funding opportunities, see link) and students at the Hochschule für jüdische Studien HfsJ (please inquire there about funding opportunities.

How much is the grant and for how long is it granted?

The grant amouts to €500 per months and is paid out for a maximum of 6 months. It is awarded by a commission; there is no legal entitlement to this aid.

What proof / documents are required?

  • fully completed application form
  • an informal letter in which you briefly explain why you need financial support (max. 1 page, DIN A4)
  • current transcript of records
  • confirmation from the examination office that you have registered for the final examination OR confirmation from your supervisor or the examination office, that you intend to take the final examination within an agreed timeframe (see form)
  • if applicatble, current employment contracts
  • bank statements for the last three months

please note that we will check the information provided and request proof if necessary.

When can I apply for the graduation completion grant?

Application period for the summer semester: February 1st. - February 28th

Application period for the winter semester: August 1st - August 31th
