Theology of the Future

The Theology Faculty of Heidelberg University and the Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Theologie are looking forward to welcoming you to the 18th European Congress of Theology, which will take place from September 8–11 with the theme “Theology of the Future.”

The ambiguity of “Theology of the Future” points to two focal points of the topic in need of being brought together: What can theology say about the future, and what will theology look like in the future? The major challenges of climate change, pandemic, and war, with as unpredictably as they may develop, also challenge the content of theology. In this way, theology draws on a rich repertoire of traditions, from apocalypticism to millenarianism to eschatological forms of ecotheology, to answer questions about the future. However, it is also faced with the task of evaluating, reconceptualizing, or reformulating this. And ultimately, theology is also called upon institutionally to face the future of changing religious landscapes.

The conference is open to all who are interested.
