Collaboration between the Fields of Focus and Integration into the University
Interdisciplinary dialog is extremely important to fully realising the potential of the comprehensive university. Heidelberg University therefore also promotes cooperation between the Fields of Focus in a variety of ways. The Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) represents a 20-year tradition of interdisciplinary cooperation in the field of scientific computing. The Marsilius Kolleg and the FRONTIER Innovation Fund were successfully introduced during the first phase of the Excellence Initiative. The Heidelberg Center for the Environment (HCE), an outgrowth of a Marsilius project, is the most recent interdisciplinary centre to be founded. These initiatives and organisations will be supported even more intensely during Excellence Initiative II.
