The role of defects in novel solution-processable semiconducting 1D and 2D nanostructures
Veranstaltungstermin: 22nd - 24th May 2018

The Multi-Scale Physics of Star Formation and Feedback during Galaxy Formation
Veranstaltungstermin: 25th - 29th June 2018

Dr. Diederik Kruijssen of the Zentrum für Astronomie der Universität Heidelberg is organising a Hengstberger Symposium on "The Multi-Scale Physics of Star Formation and Feedback during Galaxy Formation”. It is one of the big open challenges in astrophysical research to describe how stars form in large cosmological simulations that model the formation and assembly of galaxies like the Milky Way. By bringing together an international group of researchers in the areas of observations, theory, and numerical simulations of star formation, galaxy evolution, and galaxy formation, the goal of this meeting is twofold. Firstly, the aim is to come up with best-working solutions for this problem based on the current state-of-the-art understanding of star formation. Secondly, the meeting is aimed at formulating a collaborative plan as a community to come up with definitive answers that prepare cosmological simulations of galaxy formation for the upcoming generation of billion-euro telescopes.

Theoretical and Applied Advances in Prospective Memory Research
Veranstaltungstermin: 2nd - 3rd July 2018

The ability to independently remind oneself of carrying out a certain action at exactly the right moment constitutes an important human ability. This ability is called memory for intentions or prospective memory (PM) in cognition psychology and it plays an essential role in everyday life, as PM underlies all forms of systematic and future oriented behavior. During this symposium, leading researchers from the PM field will be brought together to collaboratively discuss which cognitive processes are involved in the execution of intentions and how novel psychological research methods (cognitive modeling, ambulatory assessment) can be utilized to create a better understanding of the processes underlying PM abilities. Additionally, the meeting will focus on the development of measures for the improvement of PM in everyday life as well as in professional groups for which this skill is particularly crucial, such as air traffic controllers or intensive care personnel.
