HAI members in Oceania
HAI in Oceania - the Heidelberg network “Down Under”
The university maintains relations with Oceania, particularly in the context of student exchanges. Consequently, most alumni can also be located in this context. However, apart from individual personal contacts and individual commitment, there have been comparatively few alumni activities in the region to date. This is not least due to the fact that Oceania covers a very large area with HAI members in Australia, Guam, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, which poses a certain challenge for overarching activities. Nevertheless, people from this region have been represented in the network since HAI was founded - a sign of the solidarity of alumni on the other side of the globe.
It was particularly pleasing that the first alumni meeting could take place in Oceania in 2022. The occasion was a delegation trip by representatives of Heidelberg University to various Australian universities with the aim of intensifying exchange and cooperation between the universities. During their stay in Sydney, the delegation also visited the University of Sydney and took the opportunity to organize an alumni meeting in the city. The joint dinner in November was met with great interest and turned into an exciting evening with stimulating discussions - a successful start to future alumni activities in Oceania.
Are you an alumnus or alumna of Heidelberg University and live in Oceania, but have not yet registered with the HAI network? Or do you know someone who is? Then register with us and join in - we look forward to hearing from you!
For friends of statistics: the majority of HAI members in Oceania were at Heidelberg University for stays in the humanities. Political science and economics came in second, followed closely by medicine in third place. This distribution is reflected both in study and research visits and in the individual countries in Oceania where HAI members currently live.
