KidsClub of Heidelberg University receives new changing unit
Colleagues have made donations for the childcare facility as a retirement gift for Jürgen Brachmann
It has been a year since Jürgen Brachmann retired. Since then, the former Managing Officer of the University administration never had a reason to be bored which is largely due to his volontary commitment to handball. Besides, he still enjoys staying in touch with the university and, of course, the university with him. Back in April, there was a special and very personal occasion to meet again.
A little flashback: More than a year ago, Jürgen Brachmann was asked what he would like to have as a parting gift. He had only one request: Everyone who wants to make a small gift can do so by donating to the KidsClub of Heidelberg University. At this childcare facility in the Neuenheimer Feld, multilingual caregivers look after the children of academics from all over the word that are between 1 and 6 years and living in the university’s guesthouse together with their parents.
The number of donations was remarkable which is why in the end, a total amount of 1,500 € was handed over to Dr. Agnes Speck, manager of Equal Opportunities Office, and to Andrea Steinmann, responsible for the Service for Families and the Children's Centre. Both of them were thrilled and stressed that this donation was a great help. They were finally able to purchase a new changing unit that serves the needs of the different age categories. During a visit at the KidsClub, Jürgen Brachmann had the opportunity to see for himself and was delighted: “It is so great to see what is done here for children. I am really happy that the donation directly benefits the children and their caregivers. I want to thank each and every colleague who made this possible. You really made a wish come true.”
Of course, the children and their caregivers also wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you and surprised their guest with a self-made gift.
