Studying & Teaching in Partner Countries with ERASMUS

The Erasmus+ KA171 funding line enables European higher education institutions to enter into mobility agreements with partners around the world to send and receive students and staff.

As part of this "international dimension", Heidelberg University provides scholarships for students as well as funding to promote teaching and training staff mobility at the universities listed below. There are interdisciplinary collaborations as well as collaborations at departmental level.

FUNDING

Funding rates for student mobility

The financial support for Erasmus+ stays in partner countries was defined by the European Commission at European level.

The prerequisite for funding is a minimum stay of 2 months.

Funding is available both for students from Heidelberg University who are sent to a partner country and for students from a partner country who spend their Erasmus+ stay at Heidelberg University. The funding rates vary in each case:

Funding rates for staff mobility (lecturers and employees)

The financial support for Erasmus+ stays in partner countries was defined by the European Commission at European level.

The prerequisite for funding is a minimum stay of 5 working days.

Funding is available for both lecturers/employees of Heidelberg University who are sent to a partner country and lecturers/employees from a partner country who spend their Erasmus+ stay at Heidelberg University. The funding rates vary in each case:

In addition, students, employees and lecturers receive a travel allowance. This is reimbursed depending on the actual distance between the place of departure and destination of the mobility and is calculated using the "distance calculator".

Top-ups/Subsidies

Green travel/ grünes Reisen 

Students, graduates and employees who use environmentally friendly means of transport ("green travel") for the outward/return journey to the host country/home country can be funded with an amount of up to 50 euros and up to four additional travel days if they apply in good time. The application is submitted with the application for an Erasmus+ KA 171 scholarship.

Social Top Ups

Students with fewer opportunities receive 250 euros per month in addition to their Erasmus grant for long-term mobility. The amount is EUR 250/month (EUR 8.33/day) for the same period as the ERASMUS grant. For blended short-term mobilities, a one-off grant of EUR 100 for stays of up to 14 days or EUR 150 for stays of 15 days or more.

This includes:

  • Students and graduates with a GdB of 20 or more or a proven disability or chronic illness, due to which there is an additional financial need
  • Students and graduates who are studying abroad with children
  • First-time academics (students and graduates from a non-academic family)
  • Working students and graduates
  • socio-economically disadvantaged incoming students
