Semester Events Programme Intercultural Competence for Tutors
CONTENT
In this course, we’ll draw on theory in order to reflect on the broad and somewhat vague concept of “intercultural competence”, and consider its role in the context of teaching and learning. Given the considerable influence that they can have on our assumptions, behaviours, and values in relation to teaching and learning, the personal perspectives and perceptions of course participants will play a central role in the course. The workshop is therefore designed to encourage individual and group reflection.
As part of the online workshop, we will address issues or controversies within the field of teaching and learning and consider how these align with (students’) everyday experiences. These discussions are intended to build on course participants’ previous experiences. We’ll become familiar with Kammhuber’s model of Interculturally Anchored Inquiry, and learn how this might serve as an orientation method in the context of peer teaching. Participants will also have the opportunity to apply the model to an authentic (and ideally, their own) case study.
The course is offered in collaboration with the Equal Opportunities Office.
PLEASE NOTE
The course is intended for tutors who have a great deal of contact with international students as part of their work within the University, and who would like to improve their intercultural competence.
The synchronous opening meeting and the final meeting on heiCONF will be held in two separate groups. When registering, please indicate whether you can only participate in a certain group or whether you prefer to participate in a certain group (for times see overview). Please plan on creating a short introduction video (2-5 minutes) in preparation for the first heiCONF session. You will find more details about this in the Moodle course after you register.
