Indirect Access Based On Aptitude Test for Other Vocationally Qualified Applicants (Subject-Restricted)
For vocationally qualified applicants without a scholastic university entrance qualification, one route to study is via indirect and subject-restricted access in the form of an aptitude test for such vocationally qualified applicants.
Prerequisites, in accordance with §58 II No. 6 of the Act on Higher Education of the Land of Baden-Württemberg (Landeshochschulgesetz, LHG), are:
- successful completion of a federal or state regulated vocational training programme of a minimum of two years duration and, as a rule, three years of professional experience, in each case, in a field equivalent to the intended degree programme
- written certification from a university confirming participation in an advising session
Provided there is a vocational equivalent, up to two years of work experience may be credited for work experience in family work involving independent household management and responsibility for at least one person in need of upbringing or care.
Under exceptional circumstances and in particularly justified individual cases, admission to the aptitude test may be granted even if the requirements stipulated in No. 1 are not met. The prerequisite for this is proof of several years of outstanding or extremely demanding work in a field equivalent to the intended degree programme.
Technical Equivalence
Technical equivalence between the previous vocational training and the desired degree programme is assumed to exist in any case where the core content of the vocational training and work can be allocated to the substantive content of the chosen degree programme. Technical equivalence must exist for each sub-section of the degree programme, e.g. if several major subjects are being studied as part of a teacher training programme, it must exist for each major subject.
Aptitude Test
Applications for admission to the aptitude test must be submitted by 31 January for applications to begin studies in the next winter semester, and must specify the intended degree programme (cut-off deadline).
The following documents must be submitted together with the application for admission to the aptitude test:
- documentation of vocational qualification through completion of a minimum two-year vocational training programme equivalent to the degree programme for which the applicant is applying
- documentation of work experience, generally, a minimum of three years, in a field equivalent to the degree programme for which the applicant is applying
- if applicable, documentation of work experience as described in § 3 Para. 2
- if applicable, an application for the crediting of child-raising periods or care activities, with supporting documents as specified in § 3 Para. 3
- written certification of participation in an advisory session at a university in accordance with § 2 Para. 2 of the State Higher Education Act (Landeshochschulgesetzes, LHG)
- a tabular curriculum vitae with details of previous schooling, employment history, and specific work experience
- a statement as to whether the candidate has previously participated in an examination in accordance with these Articles of Association or in a corresponding examination in the Federal Republic of Germany, and if so, with what result, or whether admission to such an examination has been applied for.
Application
Students who pass the aptitude test will be granted a degree-programme-specific higher education qualification. This must be submitted to the corresponding application/enrolment office prior to the deadline when submitting an application for admission (for programmes with restricted admission) or when enrolling (for programmes without restricted admission), along with all other required documents. The average grade indicated on the higher education qualification, which is decisive for university admissions procedures in degree programmes with restricted admission, will be the final grade earned on the aptitude test.
